So, during my oil change yesterday on the Chevy Cruze, I noticed a good sized glob of thick oil on the seal between my engine and (manual) transmission. Looks like the leak was actually up higher and running down. Will be taking it for warranty repair tomorrow. Pretty pissed though, as the car only has 31,000 miles on it. This better not be a sign of things to come.

Something like that happened to me with my Fiesta. They will fix it. Let's just hope your dealership is quick about it and do the job right. Ask them if they will be putting in a dye after they complete it that can used to ensure it's not leaking in the next few weeks.

i had a front diff seal leak on my old ms6 back in the day. isolated incident. I personally hate how they industry hasn't thought of a new way to seal joints. I'm not saying I have a better method, but leaks on seals that have been largely unchanged for 50 years is the problem.

Service departments are big money makers for dealers.

God I hope not, they better fix that! They seem like great cars but if the reliability isn't there they just aren't as great as they seem.
Also, why is it dealerships/car companies think it's all ok as long as they fix it for free? It's still a freakin hassle to get to the dealership and take the time for warranty work.

Interesting concept. I'll see what they say about the dye.

My leak was less serious than yours, it was a bad seal on an oil filter. I suspect it was shoddy work by a tech at the dealership to begin with.

Rawhide seals are nifty because while they weep a little bit in all cases, they don't tend to gush outright like a bad rubber seal.

Meh, by the time my mother's Equinox hit 31k, it had the timing chain changed twice and a new engine put in.
